Inauguration Day
Today when I awoke, I was thinking of the way the world would change. It was inauguration day, and Joe Biden became the 46th president of the United States of America. He made a statement that this is his life’s purpose, to be the president at this moment in history, deep in a global pandemic, a civil uprising, racism, and fear, was to be the president at this moment in history. One must feel that that was their destiny to step into that role. For no matter how far he will go, he has to swim up from the darkness pulling a nation in disparity.
I awoke to see the sunrise, and I shared it with the world. I urged unity and peace, forgiveness, forward movement and forgiveness. It was new day, a new dawn, not just for me, but for so many people on the planet.
400,000 American flags waved at the capitol today representing the 400,000 Americans who have lost their lives due to (or with) Covid. (No one will ever know.) In this time of wariness and separateness, we must see our similarities and appreciate our differences. It is okay to be different, beautiful even. We must accept that beauty within ourselves and within others. It is only then that we will feel the glow of a new day rising, of seeing what makes us similar instead of separate. And only then will we find hope and peace and a way forward. The past is past, the future does not exist, the present is all we have and we should be grateful for the moment. That is why we call it the present.
